Alfa Romeo Centennial - Milan 2010

On June 24 2009 Alfa Romeo celebrated it’s 99th birthday with an event held in Balocco Italy at the Alfa Romeo proving grounds and test track. Two club representatives from every Alfa Romeo owners club worldwide were invited to attend. NYAROC members Vic Cerami and Fred Frey were invited to represent the USA. The reasons for this gathering was not only to commemorate the 99th birthday of Alfa Romeo, but to create a unified “Alfisti World Club” that will provide input for the planing of a centennial event to be held in Milan during June 2010.  Various think-tank sessions were initiated with the intent of finding out what Alfa Romeo fans would like to see and do at this historic event.  Attendees were presented with many options and also proposed numerous ideas and activities which were entered into a database and culled down to the top 10. Also, at this event Alfa Romeo presented the gathered Alfisti with two world premiers; First, the launch of the website www.alfisti.com which will be an official gathering place for fans of Alfa Romeo including forums, news, video and photos and exclusive announcements. Second, a prototype of the newest Alfa Romeo, the followup to the 145, named “Milano”. This hatchback sports-car is primarily designed for the European market.

Now, some three months later, the dates for the centennial have been officially announced and will cumulate in 100 hours of activities from June 23rd thru 26th of June 2010. Events will be staged in the city of Milano, at the race track in Monza, the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, and in Balocco at the Alfa proving grounds. Various activities are being finalized and include; motorcades, driving course, exhibitions, workshops, music performances, shows and a group drive through the city center of Milan for the local people. The goal is to transform Milan into the global epicenter of the beloved brand - a 100 hour non-stop celebration of all things Alfa Romeo. There is also a strong rumor that a new and very special centennial Alfa Romeo model will debut at the event.

Alfa Romeo clubs throughout Europe are busy making plans to attend this event. An expected turnout of ten thousand cars will converge on Milan for this celebration.
